Also Completes First Optional Milestone for Rural Digital Opportunity Fund Construction with Gigabit Wireless
Nextlink Internet is proud to announce the successful completion of its Federal Communications Commission (FCC) funded Connect America Fund (CAF) construction project in the state of Oklahoma, over a year ahead of schedule. This major achievement brings high-speed internet access to underserved rural areas, helping to bridge the digital divide and stimulate economic growth. Nextlink is receiving federal funding to serve approximately 18,000 rural and remote homes and businesses with high-speed internet. Utilizing state-of-the-art fixed wireless technology, our network now delivers speeds up to 500 Mbps across thirty-six counties, exceeding the standards set by the program.
Bill Baker, CEO of Nextlink Internet, stated, “Nextlink made a promise to rural Oklahoma that we would deliver them better internet by 2026. Promise kept: well over a year early. We are thrilled that so many more Oklahomans now have high-speed internet access, creating new opportunities for rural communities.”
Claude Aiken, Chief Strategy Officer of Nextlink Internet, added, “No partnership is too big or small to get the job done. From partnering with the FCC, to the Oklahoma Broadband Office, to Central Township in Stephens County, each plays a role in getting more folks connected. Now we are expanding gigabit coverage in Oklahoma courtesy of the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund to thousands of additional homes and businesses.”
The FCC has validated Nextlink’s completion of the CAF program in Oklahoma. Counties currently served by Nextlink include Alfalfa, Atoka, Blaine, Bryan, Caddo, Canadian, Choctaw, Coal, Comanche, Cotton, Dewey, Garfield, Grady, Grant, Greer, Harmon, Harper, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnston, Kay, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Logan, Love, Major, Marshall, Noble, Oklahoma, Pittsburg, Pushmataha, Stephens, Tilman, Washita, Woods, Woodward.
Nextlink has also certified that it has met its first optional 20% completion milestone in Oklahoma under the FCC’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund program, covering over 1,100 unserved locations with gigabit wireless. It is planning to complete that project by 2028. Nextlink also is utilizing grant funding from the Oklahoma Broadband Office to complete projects in rural Caddo, Canadian, and Grady Counties.
