Nextlink Internet Receives Strategic Investment from Cable One
Hudson Oaks, Texas – Internet customers in rural and small-town areas across six states will gain greater access to high-speed broadband and phone services as a result of a strategic investment in Nextlink Internet by Cable One, Inc.
Phoenix-based Cable One is a broadband communications provider serving more than 900,000 residential and business customers in 21 states across the United States. Hudson Oaks, Texas-based Nextlink Internet is a rural-focused provider of high-speed broadband and voice services to more than 50,000 residential, business, institutional and governmental customers in Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Cable One’s investment was for a less than 10 percent equity stake in Nextlink.
“This strategic partnership with Cable One will add more momentum to our plans to deliver affordable, high-quality internet service to additional areas and households across the Central United States,” said Nextlink Internet CEO Bill Baker. “Our expansion plans relative to the FCC’s CAF II program are on track, and this investment reflects that.”
Since its founding in 2012, Nextlink has attracted over 50,000 subscribers with its focus on quality of service, the customer-service experience, and community service in rural markets while utilizing a mix of fixed wireless and fiber-optic technologies. In 2018, Nextlink won a competitive bid for $281 million in funding over 10 years from the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Connect America Fund Phase II (CAF II), which is supporting the company’s drive to deploy broadband services to more than 100,000 additional homes and businesses across six states. In 2019, Nextlink joined Microsoft’s Airband Initiative, bringing new strategic relationships and innovations to the challenge of serving rural areas.
