$4 million agreement will bring broadband to approximately 1,000 households in Gage County
HUDSON OAKS, Texas – Nextlink Internet announced today that it has reached a final agreement with Gage County, Nebraska to expand and improve broadband internet access throughout the county.
The $4 million agreement will see Nextlink deploy fiber broadband at data speeds up to symmetrical 2 gigabits per second (Gbps) to approximately 1,000 households north of Beatrice, Nebraska. Nextlink will complete this build in two years.
The Supervisor Emily Haxby, Head of the Gage County Broadband Committee, said, “Many Gage County residents don’t have broadband service. This investment will give some of our most rural residents the same next-generation broadband connectivity found in downtown Omaha. Internet access is critical for rural prosperity and we’re proud to partner with Nextlink to get this done quickly and cost-effectively.”
Bill Baker, Founder and CEO of Nextlink Internet, said, “As a rural-focused provider we use all the tools in the toolkit to get rural residents, businesses, and anchor institutions connected. Today’s agreement will help bridge the digital divide in Gage County and provide rural families with world-class fiber connectivity. Nextlink is proud to consistently deliver high-speed internet access in underserved areas in Nebraska and across America.”
To better facilitate this service, Nextlink will also open a permanent field office and warehouse in Gage County, which will employ several local, full-time individuals.
“Nextlink is fully committed to Gage County and helping achieve its goal of expanding broadband access. We look forward to providing high quality broadband with great customer service in the County for many years to come,” Baker continued.
A variety of data plans will be made available, all of which will allow the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to be applied to reduce the cost of service.
