Golinda, Texas — February 26, 2026 — Chilton Independent School District (ISD), in collaboration with Nextlink Internet, announced the official launch of the Digital Empowerment Center, marking a significant step toward closing the digital divide for Falls County residents. The initiative is supported by a Microsoft grant and community partners including Nextlink Internet, Falls County, the City of Golinda, Connected Nation, and Human-I-T.

Digital Empowerment Center: Two Locations, Broader Impact

The Digital Empowerment Center will operate at two accessible locations: the Chilton ISD campus and the City of Golinda City Hall. The City Hall location, which currently serves as a Meals on Wheels hub, will provide seniors with digital resources alongside nutritional support. The Chilton ISD campus site will also function as a community food pantry, further supporting students, families, and seniors while fostering digital inclusion.

Empowering Students and Seniors

Two Chilton ISD high school students have been selected to serve as part-time Digital Navigators. These students will lead two to three digital skills workshops for Falls County seniors, including Meals on Wheels participants, focusing on practical skills that promote connectivity and confidence in today’s digital world. In recognition of their leadership and service, student Digital Navigators will receive scholarships.

Technology Support

Through the partnership, Human-I-T will provide digital devices to ensure participants have the tools needed to actively engage in today’s connected society.

Leadership and Vision

Under the leadership of Dr. Brandon K. Hubbard, Superintendent of Schools for Chilton ISD, the district has embraced a holistic vision for student achievement and community well-being—recognizing that strong schools are built within strong, supported communities.

“This center represents more than a building—it is a bridge between education, opportunity, and economic stability for our families and community,” said Dr. Hubbard.

“When adults gain skills, families have access to essential resources, and community partners work together, our local economy becomes more resilient.”

The Digital Empowerment Center reflects the belief that educational opportunity fuels economic development—and that investing in families strengthens both schools and the future of the community.

Community Collaboration

This initiative unites Chilton ISD, Nextlink Internet, Falls County, the City of Golinda, Connected Nation, and Human-I-T in a shared commitment to digital access, education, and community support—creating a sustainable model for rural community advancement.
